23-04-2014 20 Mile HTT

The cycling club spent another week in the hills taking on The Selkirk Golfie 20 Mile Hilly Time Trial circular. From the start line at Abbotsford House your straight onto the twisty Abbotsford Road leading towards Selkirk, then from the Toll it`s up past the courthouse, keeping on the A7 through the square,  past the high school before turning left to St Boswells just after the Shell garage. The pain continues on the climb up amongst the golf course before the long 8 mile fast stretch to St Boswells,  before turning left and heading back to the finish at Abbotsford House.

The weather turned just before the race got underway but this did nothing to dampen the spirits of a fast Rob Martin taking his first ever Time Trial win coming home in 49 min 55 sec, chased to the finish by Nathan Beard four seconds later in 49m 59s with Ross Laidlaw third home 50m 17s respectfully.

The cycling club took to the hills on Wednesday night and what a hill to get your teeth into, the climb up Lindean.  From the start at Abbotsford House it was straight into the hills over to the Selkirk road, up Lindean turning left to St Boswells and heading back to the finish at Abbotsford. On a cool dry night, sixteen riders were keen to get underway for what was to be a challenging race.

Winner on the night was Gary Robson with 43 min 43 sec, 2nd Nathen Beard 44 min 09 sec with Leahn Parry, having come off his bike into the hedgerow during the climb up Lindean 3rd with 45 min 50 sec. The race stirred up plenty interest with parents and relatives coming along to cheer on their siblings and some keen amateur photographers seen out on the course capturing the pain and commitment of the riders.

5 Mile TT 26-03-14

Gala CC 5mile TT   26/03/14

The new racing season got under way last Wednesday night in rather grey and dulling conditions, but this did not put a damper on the spirits of the twenty eight riders. Some new members were a little anxious before the race got under way under the watchful eye of their more nervous parents, but after a gruelling 5 mile time trial the youngsters returned with beaming smiles having enjoyed there first race. Well done to you all.

The first race win of the new year went to  1st Ross Laidlaw 11m 36 sec, 2nd Gary Robson 11m 42 sec, 3rd Leahn Parry 11m 55 sec with a fast Nathan Beard only 5 seconds off the back in 12 minutes exactly. The riders put down an early season marker and showed just what to look out for in the coming weeks and months, with fourteen riders all finishing under twelve minutes.

I have now rechecked the times, one stop watch clicked into another mode, however we were able to retrieve correct times from the original stop watch plus three other members’ times. Apologies but these are now updated times.
