Club Update

time trials, sportives and open races might be over for the club this
season but there is no let up for the members, with the nights now
darkening quickly we continue to meet every Wednesday night at the Squash
Club rooms in Abbotsford Terrace.  A keen group bring along their
bikes, turbos and rollers and join together to take part in a turbo
training session of fast furious fun exercise on there bikes. Already it`s
seeing a dozen or more coming along every week and there is always room for more
to come and take part. 

Running alongside the training session this week Wednesday 2nd
October there will be a more social meeting for those who would
like to come and have a relaxing chat over coffee, tea and
biscuits, meeting upstairs in the Squash Clubrooms from 645pm.  New
members are most welcome to come and meet us and join in.

The Sunday Runs are now taking place. Meeting at the Auld Toun Cross at Church
Square the riders cover 30-50 miles with a café stop thrown in. The run leaves
each Sunday morning at 10am.

Next week Wednesday 9th October, the clubs Annual General Meeting will take
place at the Squash Club meeting upstairs, starting at 7pm.
 Agendas will be sent out this coming week.

Coming up this month Lucy McTaggart is running a 106km Audax event on Sunday
27th titled Ride of the Valkyrie`s it promises an end of season ride
through some of the best Scottish Border views for the Autumn Leaves. Two
good café stops are available en route at The Gordon Arms and The
Jammy Coo in Lilliesleaf . Entry is priced at only £7 and as always a
great ride is promised by Lucy and Dick. Entry details can be found at Audax

5 Mile TT 04-09-13

last club confined time trial took place on Wednesday at Abbotsford where
twenty two riders met on a fine late summers evening. The riders were all set
to see in the season finale, a short 5 mile TT from Abbotsford heading down
towards Tweedbank left to Kingsknowe left towards Netherbank and onwards
heading for Selkirk turning left once more and over Abbotsford heights and the
finish line. With the racing close and club championship competition's to
settle it was all full on racing. Fastest rider on the night was Gary
Robson finishing in 10 min 47 sec followed home by Alistair Meikle  11
min34 sec and Colin Tough 11 min 48 sec.

the weekend a few members took part in some wide range off cycling
events being held across Scotland. David McCudden and Alan Cowburgh
took the opportunity to take part in Edinburgh`s Go Sky Ride, cycling from
Holyrood around the Royal Park on Saturday amongst some spectacular city views.
Paul Anderson, riding from Glasgow to Edinburgh on Sunday came off his bike
heavily. damaging the forks and sustaining gravel rash and bruising to his
body. Liam Thomson and Elaine Andrews  took part in the Tour of Tweedale
on Sunday in glorious sunshine with 300 others. A group off club members
also met at the Old Town Cross on Sunday morning for a club Sunday ride, the
rides will start at 10 am.

Dates for your diary, the Annual General Meeting will be held on Wednesday
9th Oct in the Squash Courts from 7 pm.  A Prize Presentation evening
including meal and refreshments will be held at Kingsknowe Hotel on Friday 1st
November menu details have been circulated.  A Christmas Sunday Run
followed by Christmas Lunch will take place on Sunday 1st December, more
details to follow. In Gala, Steve Diamond Cycle Centre has moved to a bigger
brighter showroom at Wilderhaugh Service Station.   

10 Mile TT 21-08-2013

large field of twenty five club riders took part in the last 10 mile TT of
the 2013 season, coming out on top was Alistair Meikle setting a PB time
on the way to winning in 22 min 58 sec.  A tie for second saw
David Johnston and Rob Martin ( PB ) 23 min  14 sec, closely followed home
by Colin Tough 23 min 20 sec who in turn was chased home by the flying Neil
Shephard 23 min 25 sec. The racing was fought to the last pedal
stoke with Chris Adamson and his minute man Bill Hamilton fighting it to
the line, crossing together only the time keeper could separate them in
the end, Chris having caught Bill came out on top. With the season nearly over
and the riders fitness is at a peak, this shows with five riders
again setting Personnel Best times Alistair, Rob, Jack, Craig and Joe all going
faster this week.

the season drawing to a close there is no let up on the race front, with three
races held this week no less. The week was dominated by three riders who
claimed the honours in Monday and Wednesdays Time Trials , however it was the
week Neil Shephard wont forget setting a Personnel Best time on both
nights and breaking the magic hour for the first time during the 25 mile TT.

continued on Wednesday  moving to Tweedbank  with the last 25 mile TT
and a 10 mile TT taking place. Again it was David, Leahn and Neil this time
around taking the top three in the 25 mile. David clearly had the bit between
his teeth tonight taking the win in an impressive 57 min 53 sec, racing
for 2nd and 3rd couldn't have been closer with Leahn Parry and Neil Shephard
separated by just ONE second 59 min 26 and 59 min 27 sec.

conditions were found to be favourable with eight riders posting Personnel
Best times during  the evenings racing. Competing in the 10 mile TT
Alistair Meikle took the win in 23 min 45 sec just one second in front off Ian
Pearson 23 min 46 sec, in third place and a PB for Rob Martin in 24 min 08 sec
completed the top three respectively.
